I would love some advice on what software and automations you have in your practice. Some background on us and what we are trying to do. Goal: automate data entry and bookkeeping work so we can focus on tax planning We are a firm of 3, we do wealth management and tax preparation as well. We use Quickbooks desktop, 40 clients (some are just payroll). We have been trying to get our new admin to do most of the data entry work in QBD and its been a nightmare. They can't figure the simplist things out and has made mistakes that are plain "not paying attention" They are new but some mistakes are getting very annoying. My partner has refused to move off of Quickbooks desktop even though we will get priced out soon and refuses to look at anything else. Does anyone have recommendations on autom…

She’s probably using a spreadsheet where she dumps all of the raw data, and uses formulas, macros, and other excel tools to calculate the entries and help with recons. That’s what we did when I worked for a newspaper. I had 40+ publications and about 50+ balance sheet recons I had to do, mostly for deferred revenue. It would only take a few minutes to run all of my reports, dump the data, and the spreadsheet did the work for me. Most I would have to do is update data ranges and correct any mapping issues with the formulas. I even had it set to populate my entries into a CSV file that I uploaded. This part made the recons easier, and discrepancies were obvious.

First of all that sounds quite frustrating. For data entry specifically, you could do something in Codex as people have pointed out. It would use QBD SDK, but would have to run on your computer, QB must be open, and has to be a Windows machine. It seems like you are trying to create and share this amongst others more so than for yourself - which is where this plan sort of falls apart, and likely one of the software programs would be easier. For off the shelf, Dext does work with QBD, it just goes through Dext Connect which is a Windows app that sits on the same machine as QuickBooks. AutoEntry is the other one that actually supports Desktop. Hubdoc needs QBO unfortunately.
