Stress test
Wedge: We are building a scheduling and substitute finding system for home care service managers when they need to find a replacement caregiver, because they are currently forced to manually search for substitutes in emergency situations.
Drop it if: If caregiver turnover is so high that the system cannot adapt to constant changes in staff availability.
Does a plain AI chat solve it: no — needs integration, scheduled runs or third-party data

Idea check
The idea is checked against a 14-point checklist: clarity, reusability across customers, sales potential. Every item is filled in with a factual finding, and the final verdict is computed by formula — identically for every idea.
How many customers and how much money For business
Where the number comes from:
The ceiling is the lower of two limits: what the market gives up (1% of the segment at a realistic capture rate) and how many customers a crew of this size can actually serve. Ideas with a ceiling below $2000 per month are rejected. The "customers for $10000" counter shows how many paying customers it takes to reach that figure.

There are no roles here that AI cannot take over — one person can carry this project.
The timeline assumes an AI assistant: it covers code, integrations, UI, copy, docs, tests and first-line support, so a designer, a frontend developer and a copywriter do not count as people here. Only what AI cannot replace counts: long-cycle sales, on-call and SLA, licensed expertise, and the physical world — hardware, logistics, suppliers.
Domain knowledge One-time insider
The rules are nowhere written down in full. One session with a practitioner is enough; after that they are the same for everyone.
Where the rules are written: Scheduling and substitute finding rules are known by the manager, not documented anywhere.
What you must know about someone else's business to write the spec at all: which fields, which rules, what counts as an error. Technical difficulty does not count — the reader is the developer.
Clarity 4/4
-
Concrete process high confidence
-
Measurable outcome medium confidence
-
One-line pitch high confidence
Reusability 3/4
-
Many similar customers high confidence
-
Config, not custom work high confidence
-
Recurring workflow high confidence
Sales potential 6/6
-
Budget holder exists high confidence
-
Pain already costs money high confidence
-
Buying trigger high confidence
-
Cheap access to customers high confidence
-
Recurring value high confidence
Red flags
-
Already free from incumbent medium
-
Thin evidence medium

How it works: the model must walk every checklist item and cite a concrete fact from the evidence, while the verdict and confidence are computed in code under rules identical for every idea.

Home care agency owners: how do you manage unreliable caregivers?

The strongest approach is to build a predictable coverage system rather than solving each absence manually. Keep a small paid on-call pool, cross-train caregivers across compatible clients, and offer clear incentives for emergency coverage. For 24-hour cases, define the escalation path in advance, including who can extend a shift, how overtime is handled, and when the office must step in. I would also track call-outs by caregiver, client, shift, and day. Patterns can reveal whether the underlying issue is compensation, scheduling, a difficult assignment, or poor hiring. No-call/no-shows should have firm consequences, but reliable caregivers also need competitive pay and recognition for taking difficult shifts.

manage caregiver scheduling and reliability: last-minute call-outs and no-shows cause operational stress and client dissatisfaction

I'm having some difficulty with caregivers and wanted to see how other people in the home care space manage this. I knew going into this business that caregivers and staffing were going to be challenging. Sometimes you get caregivers who are really good, reliable and easy to work with, and then you get others who are super flaky, standoffish, call out last minute, or just don't show up. How do you guys manage the stress of it? Does it ever keep you up at night worrying about whether someone is actually going to show up for their shift? I'm also curious how you manage your caregiver pool. Do you purposely keep more caregivers around than you actually need? Do you have people specifically on-call or available as backups? And when someone doesn't show up, what do you actually do? Are you …
